Pain Management and Male Hormones

There are alternatives

There are alternatives

Anti-inflammatory medication is so commonly taken, but is it without its dangers?

Fertility rates in the western world are in decline and more couples are having problems conceiving. Testicular health is vital for not only sperm production but testosterone production, the king of male hormones. Hormone balance is important in men and is linked with muscular development, fertility and depression.

So what does this have to do with pain management? Recent studies indicate that aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen taken by a pregnant mother can the impact testicles of the unborn male baby. This spawned more research, which indicates that hormone balance in young men can also be negatively affected by regularly taking high doses of these pain relief medications.

Although these medications have their place and are often effective in reducing pain it is important to consider the results of this research. If you are managing or suffering from pain it is a good idea to look more broadly at pain management options with your health professional.

Consider what you are eating when managing pain and inflammation. Reducing processed foods, sugar and excessive meat consumption can bring down inflammation. Quality bone broths and fish oil are both great at reducing inflammation and maintaining healthy joints.

Immobile joints can often cause pain and inflammation. Chiropractic can be an effective pain management option by improving joint mobility and is regarded as a low risk form of healthcare. Combined with strengthening and mobility exercises it is a great tool to not only reduce pain but also improve the functional ability of your body.
