Spinal Health Week is upon us. It’s a time of year when, as Chiropractors, we spend that extra bit of time and effort educating people on the importance of looking after your spine. The fact is that our modern lifestyles can be quite detrimental to the health of your spine.
Your spine consists of up to 33 bones (depending on your age) and dozens of muscles and joints that help your spine stay mobile. It’s the times that we’re not mobile that seem to cause a lot of our problems.
“Text neck” is becoming a relatively common term describing tension and pain in the neck caused by too much time looking down at a phone. Binge watching TV shows can lead to excessive amounts of time spent in a poor posture on the couch. Many jobs require an unnatural length of time sat in front of a computer, contributing to neck and shoulder complaints.
Counteracting the effects of this type of problem can be quite straightforward. Spending less time on your phone, on your couch, or at your desk where possible is effective. Swap some sitting time for some moving time – your body is designed to move. Keep an eye on your posture and remind yourself to straighten up through the day.
Chiro can help. Your local Chiropractor is a university trained health professional well-suited to diagnose, treat, co-manage, and manage pain and headaches caused by the effects of poor posture, particularly in your low back and neck.
‘Chiro Can Help’ is the theme for Spinal Health Week this year. Spinal Health Week is a health initiative of the CAA and is taking place on 21-27 May 2018. #ChiroCanHelp
