Human Body - The Best Kind of Machine

ROBOT

“We will rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man.” For decades doctors, scientists, and engineers have been striving to build and improve bionic implants in order to increase the capabilities of the human body. The Six Million Dollar Man was a 1970s TV show created around the idea that those scientists could “build the world’s first bionic man” with superhuman strength, speed and vision. Thankfully, today, those efforts have resulted in implants that can, for example, treat deafness, keep our hearts ticking, and increase the longevity of particular joints.

To date, there is still no pump as efficient and reliable as your heart, no filter as effective as your kidneys, no detoxifier as capable as your liver, no engine as energy efficient as your cells, no computer as powerful as your brain, no camera as detailed as your eyes, and no prosthetic joint as durable as your knees. By all accounts, the best thing you can do to increase your capabilities is to look after what you were born with.

The two best ways to take care of what your mother gave you are through diet and exercise. The foods that go into your mouth become the building blocks of every cell in your body, hence the old cliché “you are what you eat”. The best way to take control of your diet is by trying something that’s not called a ‘diet'; your objective should be to find good food you can eat forever. A temporary diet is never a good long-term solution. A great place to start is to just eat real food.

In terms of exercise, the best advice anyone can give you is to do something you enjoy. For most people, exercise that increases your heart rate is most valuable, but if for any reason that is not achievable, any regular movement is hugely beneficial to your body. Research is increasingly confirming the importance of movement for our bodies, not only for muscles, but for heart health, mental health, bone strength, and cognition – to name a few.

Exercise is important, but it relies heavily on the coordination and constant communication between your brain and muscles via your nerves. Many people may not know that the focus of chiropractic is on improving your health by assessing not only the function of your musculoskeletal system, but also your nervous system.  Every human, bionic or not, can benefit from some maintenance.

Make a time to see us and find out if you could benefit from a professional assessment of your musculoskeletal and nervous systems; it may just be the best way to look after the most advanced machine in the world – your body.
