Anxiety Begins Where?

The end of another year approaches. Exams, end of year deadlines, family or work events sometimes make for stressful occasions. Anxiety, an expression of high stress, starts when the levels of stress in our lives exceed our resources. Stress arises essentially from three areas: trauma (i.e. physical injuries), toxins (i.e. chemicals, disease) and thoughts (emotional stress). Anxiety is a sign that the nervous system and the body generally is struggling to cope with everything that is happening and trips a circuit breaker.

In response to different stressors the body activates the Adaptive Stress Response. This produces increased heart rate, blood pressure and prepares the body for a ‘fight or flight’ response in order to cope and survive.  We can do many things to reduce the level of stressful input such as exercising, taking a break or deep breathing. Being connected to your community and sharing a concern or worry, remembering the old adage, “a burden shared is a burden halved”, can all help to reduce stress levels.

Changes in the Nervous System in response to stress can contribute significantly to unhealthy changes in the body. By helping to relieve physical tension in the body, Chiropractic care can assist in reducing the stressful input into the Nervous System and help improve the overall health and function of the body.

Make a time for a check up and see how we may be able to improve your Nervous System function.
